Zagara di Sicilia

Today I went to Via Ritiro N.7 Modica for a quick inspection before Ronald arrives. It was wonderful, it is so hot outside and the thick old walls of the building create a cool shelter, a natural protection from the sun and the heat.

I went through a drawer in my grandmother's bedroom and I found a bottle of her favourite perfume - Zagara di Sicilia. I smiled, it immediately opened such a window to the past allowing through a flow of memories to come rushing in my head. I guess this is how it is going to be until we finish. Each drawer, cupboard, box in the house holds the memories of lives past and messages to lives future.

Zagara di Sicilia is a typical cologne which is not in fashion anymore. But I remember that for my grandmother it was a must have product. Every time her sister came to visit from Rome she could not leave without a good stock in her suitcase, next to the cheese and the almond sweets.

They do still sell it, especially in souvenir shops but now it gives you the idea of a tourist product.
However, it is a wonderful fragrance resulting from the mix of Orange Blossom, Lemon Blossom and Bergamot Blossom touched with Citron. The smell of spring in Sicily.

What better souvenir of a nocturnal garden scent which evokes citrus groves at dusk. Mysterious, earthy and romantic. My grandmother and her sisters knew it all, it is a must have! Hope it gets back in fashion soon!
