What you will learn
A three courses vegetarian menu dedicated to Sicilian recipes which are 'traditionally' vegetable based.
How you will learn it
We run relaxed hands-on cooking classes to make sure you have fun while experimenting with Sicilian food.
Tasting the food
After the cooking class we sit around the table to enjoy the food we prepared with a glass of Sicilian wine.
The lesson
All classes are taught in English and/or Italian, and start with a short introduction to Sicilian food history and traditions.
The hands-on lessons lasts about 3 hours with a small break in the middle to sit down and relax outside on the terrace overlooking San Giorgio with a drink of wine or coffee.
At the end of the session, we sit down and enjoy our meal paired to Sicilian wine, enjoying the breathtaking view of Modica's Saint George cathedral.
The Menu
During the class we talk about Sicilian fantastic vegetables, when they are in season and how many traditional recipes are 'effortlessly' vegetarian.
We will use seasonal, mostly organic products, so the actual recipes might change from season to season.
A menu typically include a 'caponata' or another traditional all veggie starter, a soup or a pasta/rice based dish as main course and a dessert.
It is also possible to have a fully vegan menu, in this case get in touch via email please.
Things to know
The loveSicily Cookery School is located right in the centre of the beautiful city of Modica - a Unesco World Heritage site in South-Eastern Sicily with a rich culinary tradition and wonderful baroque architecture.
The property has been restored to its original 1930s feel, when Katia's grandparents bought it, but the building dates back to the 17th century. It has an elegant living space and a spacious kitchen, both with domed ceilings and direct access to the terrace, which offers spectacular views of Modica's baroque San Giorgio Cathedral.
Please note that Modica develops up the slopes of a Valley and steps are hard to avoid. The school is located right in the centre of Modica, some 80 steps up from the 'corso' crossing the historical centre. If you feel that this may be a concern please get in touch for advice. LINK
