A new era for Sicilian wines

Sicily produces roughly twice the annual volume of Australia in terms of wine. So what is the reason that Sicilian wines do not have the same reach like wines from the rest of Italy. Well one of the reasons is that for many years the bulk of the Sicilian wine (and from Puglia for that matter) has gone to bulk up bottles of more "marketable" red wine in Northern Italy, France and Germany. Now this practise is illegal.

In the past years Sicily has been enjoying the attentions of better vineyard managers, more savvy marketers (like Planeta) that are dedicating their efforts to both developing local varieties as well as blending them with international varieties.

Sure, people may have heard of Nero d'Avola or Cerasuolo, but there is much, much more to discover. We hope to be bringing you some of the best in the months to come...(yes we know, its a tough job but someone has to do it :-) )
